Anyway here's what I've seen thus far:
Atonement
Overrated. No wonder it didn't win any Oscars. Slightly disturbing at the start and doesn't improve. But Keira Knightly does indeed have a very nice green dress, apparently it was voted 'best green dress in a movie' or something.
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Brilliant. Loved it. Perhaps simple, but thoroughly enjoyable. Typical Frank Capra (see how I sound like a pro!) but way better than 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
The Crying Game
Yeah, alright. A young Forrest Whittaker (doing an English accent) is a strange sight. Does quite a good job at the start in making NI seem a really scary place. Did not see the twist coming at all. M. Night Whatshisface has nothing on this one.
Election
Not bad. I watched Reese Witherspoon THS and they talked about this film. She is very good in it, but as a teacher I found it slightly disturbing.
The Manchurian Candidate
Good, in a scary way. With the US election ongoing, you often hear make mention of 'The Manchurian Candidate' and I had not seen it. It was the Denzel Washington one I got, which I imagine brings the whole storyline up to date with gadgets. I might get the other one now too, just to compare. I really enjoyed it and now understand references made on CNN and the like.
Lions for Lambs
Alright. I think I expected more from it. Seemed very short, like 80 minutes or something. Good to have seen I suppose.
Goodnight and Good Luck
Brilliant. I really like George Clooney's films now. He makes really smart films that should be made, although perhaps not box office successes. I thought this was really well written and shot (in black and white) with clever use of actual footage from the time (hence why it's black and white). Has the brilliant line in it - 'We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home'. Makes you think.
Definitely, Maybe
Much better than expected. Finally a nice rom-com was sent to me! I truly thought this was going to be wet, akin to 'Maid in Manhatten', 'Along Came Polly' or 'Mickey Blue Eyes'. But I actually really liked it, reasonably funny and didn't really know where the story was going to go (until the last 30 minutes anyway). That's rare in romantic comedies.
